A group of us here at eSpares (although not me, I’m not brave enough) has decided that we’re going to run The Royal Parks Half Marathon in October. As their website rather eloquently puts it, “[The Royal Parks Half Marathon] is one of the most scenic city runs in the world, starting and finishing in Hyde Park, and taking in Kensington Gardens, Green Park and St James’s Park.”

Last week, I got a bit envious of Matt and Gabe, as they got to geek out over spark plugs, carburettors and the like whilst shooting a video for the Qualcast Classic Petrol 35s mower. In it Matt shows you what to do if your mower isn’t starting. Check out the roar of that four-stroke engine at 4:51. Beautiful.

The oven element is one of the most commonly bought part types on our website. In the cookers & hobs category, it sits alongside control knobs, cooker door seals and oven shelves.
The major difference it has with those exalted peers? It involves getting ‘under the bonnet’ of the appliance a little more, and is a Fix It that less people are willing to try than the simpler task of replacing a control knob.

They’re like London buses, kind of. A mere two days after reopening after Easter 2011: The Eastering, the Call Centre will be closing again this afternoon. It will remain in that state until Tuesday, a day when I daresay the country’s collective head may be slightly fuzzy. Apart from our Call Centre agents of course – they will be fresh as daisies and waiting to take your calls.

You may or may not have heard of The Gadget Show, a Channel 5 magazine show that delights in all things, well, gadgety, funnily enough. It’s an agreeable watch, something to chuck on just as you’ve got home from work and need to relax for half an hour. Indeed, it’s Wikipedia page states that ‘it aims to give enough information for the more “geeky” or knowledgeable audience, but still making it accessible to the more casual viewer’, and I’d say that it fulfils that remit admirably.

In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve been going a bit garden crazy over the last couple of weeks. It’s that wonderful time of year when it seems like the summer is just around the corner (at least when it isn’t raining). Getting your garden ready for the coming months of barbecues and the sun being out ’til 10 at night is something that makes us eSpares types pretty excited. Hence, like I said, the recent glut of garden videos.

Last week, much like most weeks, we shot some new How-To videos. However last week, unlike any other week, we decided to go for a slightly more off kilter subject – we shot some videos for the Flymo GardenVac 1600 Plus.

I’ve seen the future, and it’s malleable and amorphous. Electrolux, the Swedish proprietors of all things appliance, run a ‘Design Lab’ every year, with the brief “to specifically seek solutions that address how people prepare food, clean and do dishes both within the home and beyond”.

Dyson has been a standard bearer in innovative, effective and attractive design ever since they launched their first vacuum cleaner, the Dyson DC01, all the way back in 1993. Always at the cutting edge, and expanding in to washing machines, hand dryers and ‘Air Multipliers‘, Dyson are responsible for turning the vacuum cleaner from being a dreary household appliance in to being a style icon with a cult following.
