Reduce your Drying Time

With winter not far round the corner and the great outdoors becoming darker, wetter and colder we’ll be ever more reliant on our tumble dryers. After your refrigerator a tumble dryer will typically use the most energy in your home, so it’s important to take the necessary steps to reduce drying time as much as possible. Obviously hanging clothes to dry is an effective, environmentally friendly alternative but for times when hanging to dry is simply not an option, or the lesser favoured one you can still follow some steps to use your tumble dryer most efficiently.

Winter Ready Garden

We are indeed starting to say goodbye to summer. To be fair after its poor performance I am more than happy to help it on its way out. I think it needs to take a long hard look at its 2012 season and ask itself ‘did I really give the great British people a summer they could be happy with?’

Whilst we wait, with bated breath for the cooler months to arrive there are some simple things you can be doing to get your home and garden winter ready.

Cook Better and Safer

The coating in the types of non-stick pans we all use is made from perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) – say that five times fast! This acid can be harmful to human health and the environment over time. There are some better alternatives out there to the chemical-ridden non-stick cookware we all use.

Why not go back to basics with good ol’ cast iron pans? Cast iron is naturally non-stick, retains heat, is durable and like a fine wine, only gets better with age. It’s also what our grandmothers and great grandmothers used for proper, delicious home-cooking!

Summer Sports

Love him or hate him you can’t deny the excitement Boris Johnson’s speech evoked after the Olympians parade yesterday. It’s been a fantastic summer for sports and especially for the athletes who call Great Britain home. Not only did the games offer a chance for team GB to become one of the most decorated in Olympic history but don’t forget about the likes of Bradley Wiggins claiming the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, Roy McIlroy winning the US Open golf tournament and just last night Andy Murray won not only his first major at the US open, but he also became the first Brit in 76 years to win a Grand Slam title (last time was Fred Perry at the US Open in 1936).

They include some pretty bad-boy chemicals which can be lethal if ingested and not treated immediately.

Oven Timer With Controls

Dead Cooker?

We recently received some interesting feedback from a customer regarding a fix it yourself mishap (or rather what they thought was a mishap). After successfully replacing the element in their cooker and reconnecting to the mains, the cooker appeared to be dead. No power, no functions, nothing. As it turns out the replacement was a success but the reason for the power failure was simply because the clock/ timer needed to be reset. Depending on what type of cooker you have and how old it is, the type of clock will be different. See below for advice on resetting your clock.
