Spray the sponge!

When cleaning glass, polishing furniture or wiping appliances, spray the cleaner directly on to the sponge or cloth rather than the surface. Spritzing the surface wastes a lot of product and can sometimes stain meaning extra scrubbing to remove – and no one needs that!

Having to refresh your sponge collection more often than you’d like? Next time cut them in half and make twice the amount! Half a sponge is just as effective as a whole one, plus it will be easier to get into those nooks and crannies! To make them last even longer, disinfect sponges by soaking them in water and placing them in the microwave for 2 minutes. This has been found to kill 99% of germs and bacteria.

Remember to measure

If you’re guilty of pouring detergent straight into the machine or just guessing how much there should be, then you’re not alone! Many detergents are now 2 or 3 times concentrated so a cap is often far too much and can even damage your clothes by leaving stains. Check the instructions on the packet and use less for sensitive items.

Recycle!

Just add water

Most cleaners are actually too strong for their purpose so topping it up with water won’t make the effects any less. When your cleaner gets past the three quarter mark top it up with water and it will do the exact same job! Or, split your cleaner into 3, top them up with water and there you have 3 for the price of 1!

Cut down your cleaners

Use a multi-purpose cleaner to save money and save space in your cupboards! Unless it’s cleaner for specific materials, you don’t need separate cleaners to do each job in your home. A multi-purpose or multi-surface cleaner will do the job the exact same way and save you heaps of cash.

Air freshener DIY

There’s nothing better than a fresh-smelling home, but as we all know air fresheners can be pricey and there’s the added effort of finding the right one. So why not make your own. You know which smells you like so choose your favourite oil and add a few drops to a spray bottle filled with water. Your home will smell fresh and the air freshener will last a whole lot longer.
