How to Clean Your Stainless Steel Appliances

Stainless steel appliances give off a shiny gleam that brightens up any kitchen. The downside? They are no match for grubby fingers and messy stains!
However, your beloved stainless steel can be restored to its natural beauty with just a little bit of TLC and a dose of elbow grease! Here is everything you need to know to keep your appliances looking like brand new.
Find the right companion!
First things first! You need a cleaner that knows what you’re talking about. Chose one that is specifically for stainless steel and stick to using only that. Cleaners that contain scouring powders, abrasives, bleach or ammonia will only damage the surface of your appliances and leave stains looking worse than they did when you started.
It’s all about the grain
As with wood, stainless steel has different variations in the colour of the surface. If you look closely, you will notice the lines tend to go in one direction – either top to bottom or left to right. Before you get started, find the grain on your appliances and wipe in that direction with your cloth to prevent any further smudges or marks.
A wipe a day…
Keeps the stains away! Using your cleaner or dishcloth, wipe down any food splatters, dust or grease from your appliances every day. This will ensure the stainless steel remains shiny and clean, preventing the build-up of dust and dirt.
Easy peely
Not only do oranges have many health benefits, they can help with your cleaning too! As oranges produce natural oil, the peel helps to refresh the shine of stainless steel. Once a week, wipe down your appliance with an orange peel, again working to the grain and your appliances will shine like new! Pro-tip – the fresher the peel, the better the shine!
A monthly massage
Just like a massage makes us feel fresh and new, it does the same for your appliances! To protect your stainless steel from rust and smudges, give them an oil treatment once a month. First, wipe down the surface with white vinegar in the direction of the grain, then rub with olive or mineral oil also along the grain.
If you maintain this routine, you’ll never have to worry about pesky smudges or stains again!
