I’d always wondered why modern appliances were held together by Torx head screws. I mean, everyone has a flat head or a Phillips screwdriver. Or even an Allen key. A lot less people own Torx head screwdrivers. So why do appliance manufacturers put Torx head screws on their appliances? To annoy us? To make us spend money on Torx head screwdrivers as part of some wild conspiracy?

This morning, a person who chose to remain anonymous posted a short sentence on our website about the Indesit Professional Oven Cleaner Spray. It read:
‘A very effective non heat oven cleaner, great quality’
That simple sentence turned out to be our 50,000th review. That’s a lot of reviews. 50,000 is a big number. In fact, there has now been a review submitted to eSpares for every man, woman and child in the Wiltshire cathedral city of Salisbury.

The typically British weather we’ve been having the last couple of weeks has left the grass in my back garden well in need of a trim. Over the last fortnight we’ve seen plenty of sun and a load of rain – perfect conditions for a lawn growth spurt.
One of the most common areas to break in Flymo electric mowers is the on-off switch and handle section – especially if during periods of heavy use. It can be really frustrating, as you know the mower is working fine, it’s just one of the more superficial parts that’s preventing you using it. Good thing the switch box is a doddle to replace!

Replacing an oven thermostat is another one of those tasks that tend to sound daunting. It really shoudn’t, because it’s so easy to do. I mean, if I can do it, anyone can. Seriously.

My post the other day about the breadmaker got me thinking. Basically, while having the means to easily make your own bread must certainly be nice, a breadmaker is pretty much a luxury that it wouldn’t be too hard to live without. I mean, you could just buy a loaf of Kingsmill. Or if the urge to bake becomes too much, your regular oven is a perfectly acceptable substitute.

A group of us here at eSpares (although not me, I’m not brave enough) has decided that we’re going to run The Royal Parks Half Marathon in October. As their website rather eloquently puts it, “[The Royal Parks Half Marathon] is one of the most scenic city runs in the world, starting and finishing in Hyde Park, and taking in Kensington Gardens, Green Park and St James’s Park.”
