A recent survey advised that appliances left on ‘standby’ mode account for 9-16% of the average user’s household electricity bill. The worst offenders are televisions, satellite boxes and other audio/video equipment, but devices such as mobile phones, computers and even washing machines and dishwashers are increasingly being left in ‘standby’ mode.
