The new energy price cap could be adding significant amounts to the cost of running your household appliances. Knowing just how much these bills could rise is a good place to get started so you can help keep costs down.

Essential household items like your washing machine, fridge freezer, oven and dryer are impossible to give up but there are some things you can do to help reduce the amount they could be costing you in the future.

First, let’s take a look at just how much the prices are set to rise. Of course, it depends on the appliance size and the amount of usage, but below is an average of how much your appliance costs could rise this winter calculated from research by consumer experts, Which?.

Fridge freezer

Let’s start with your fridge freezer. As this appliance needs to be constantly left on, there’s no doubt it’s going to be the one that’s costing you. According to Which? research, an average integrated fridge freezer currently costs £73 a year to run, a freestanding costs around £84 and American models around £120. In October, these prices are set to rise to £91 for an integrated model, £102 for freestanding and £146 for American. The most expensive fridge freezer tested was set to rise to a whopping £217 a year in running costs.

Tumble dryer

Tumble dryers are another costly one but especially during the winter months, they can be essential. Based on an average of three dryer cycles per week, the average cost of running a heat pump tumble dryer will rise from £56 to £68 per year and a condenser tumble dryer will rise from £140 to £170. The most expensive dryer tested, which was a heat pump dryer, could be costing a staggering £234 a month.

Washing machine

There’s no escaping using your washer but how much exactly are all those loads costing? Based on the average household completing 4 washes per week, Which? estimated that the current cost of using a standard washing machine is currently £63 a year and could potentially rise to £77 in October. The cheapest-to-run washing machines tested were estimated to now cost £31 a year, up from £26 and the most expensive to go up from £95 to £115.

Dishwasher

Based on running your dishwasher around five times a week, the average cost to run a full-size dishwasher is currently £83 a year and is most likely going up to £99. For a slim line model, you’re estimated to pay on average £89, up from £73 and the most expensive dishwasher tested will cost £127 rising from £104 per year.

Oven

The cost of cooking your weekly meals is also on the rise. Running a double electric oven will rise from £64 to £77, a single electric oven from £66 to £80, a double gas oven from £25 to £37 and a single gas oven from £20 to £29 per year.
