Five Top Tips to Help Soften Your Bed Sheets this Valentine’s Day

If ever there was a time to make sure your bed sheets are as soft, silky and smooth as possible, it’s Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re spending the day with the one you love or wanting to show yourself a little TLC at the most romantic time of the year, here are five top tips to help you soften your sheets this Valentine’s Day.

From great products to laundry hacks, you’ll be thanking us when you wake up feeling like you’ve spent the night on a bed of roses… just without the thorns, of course. (Disclaimer – rose petals not included with any of our products!)

Bed Sheets and Dryer Balls

Tumble Dryer Balls

Talk about a match made in heaven! A lesser-known accessory in the wonderful world of washing and drying, tumble dryer balls are an efficient and environmentally friendly way of keeping your sheets nice and soft without all the nasty chemicals. They work by separating laundry as it dries, allowing hot air to circulate faster whilst gently agitating the fibres of sheets and clothes for extra softness. With dryer balls in your tumble dryer, your bed sheets will come out feeling softer in a shorter amount of time, saving you both money and energy – two things you definitely need plenty of on Valentine’s Day, that’s for sure…

Clean Your Machine

Hand in Washing Machine

When it comes to doing laundry, whether it’s bed sheets, clothing or anything else, it’s easy to only think about what’s going inside the washing machine drum… but what about the rest of the machine? If a washing machine is dirty internally, it’s going to drastically affect the outcome of your laundry cycle. Fortunately, there are tons of great products to help you give your washing machine a good, deep clean, making sure your sheets don’t just feel soft for Valentine’s Day but look and smell fresh too.

A Pinch of Salt

Epsom Salts

One handy hack to get your sheets as soft as possible is bathing them in Epsom salts. Filling a bathtub with cold water and adding about 50 grams of Epsom salts can truly work wonders – and don’t we all just love a good home remedy? Just stir the sheets around with the salts for a few minutes, let them soak overnight then hang them out to dry the next day. Epsom salts also have cleaning properties, but sticking them in the washing machine beforehand is probably a good idea to make sure they’re thoroughly washed and ready for good salting. While we’re on the topic, Epsom salts can be a great way to soothe tired muscles too, which could also be handy for a post-Valentine’s Day soak. Because, y’know, you might be sore from doing all that strenuous laundry…

A Recipe For Romance

Teddy Bears in Water

Baking soda has more uses than cooking and baking, and softening laundry is one of them. Do away with the detergent, softener or anything else you would usually use during a wash cycle – just throw a cup of baking soda in with your laundry and put the washing machine on for a spin. The water and baking soda alone can soften even the roughest sheets with no chemicals necessary. What better way is there to bake up a little love in time for Valentine’s Day?

The Best of Both Worlds

Bed Sheets Hanging to Dry

Finally, we have a combination of two drying methods. If you’re a little more eco-friendly than some but still want to achieve the degree of softness a tumble dryer provides, try hanging your bed sheets on the line until they’re almost dry but still a little damp. Then take them down, throw them into your tumble dryer for ten minutes to finish them off and they’ll be just as soft as they would be after a full drying cycle. After all, shrinking our carbon footprint is always a good thing, and Mother Earth deserves a little affection on the universal day of love too!

We hope you enjoyed our five top tips to help you soften your sheets this Valentine’s Day.
