Having a green home that meets all of your needs is absolutely attainable, and it’s something we should all strive to achieve. That’s why, to go alongside our Netflix one-year-subscription giveaway, we’ve compiled a list of Netflix documentaries to help keep you motivated about fixing up your home and our planet.

Being able to build a home with your own two hands is a dream shared by countless people around the globe. With Tiny House Nation, you can see exactly how some manage to make that dream a reality. Exploring a variety of micro-homes, this Netflix gem is both entertaining and informative when it comes to DIY hacks and home alterations – and not just for tiny houses either. Many of the methods used by the show’s participants can be just as easily applied to larger living spaces, serving as inspiration for both home DIY projects and consumer-conscious living. After all, what’s the point in using more when you can thrive on less?
A Plastic Ocean

Exploring the fragile state of our seas and oceans, A Plastic Ocean is an eye-opening feature-length documentary about the effects of plastic on our environment. When it comes to home DIY, plastic is one of the most commonly used materials. That’s why it’s more important now than ever to maintain our living spaces in an eco-friendly manner. Both informative and hard-hitting, A Plastic Ocean reminds us that there are plenty of ways to live, fix and create with materials that are less damaging to earth. This a must-watch for any DIY enthusiasts who are eco-conscious – and even more so for those who aren’t!

When it comes to DIY in the form of tidying and decluttering your home, there’s no finer show than Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. Teaching us how to keep our surroundings neat, clean and organised through downsizing on items and belongings we don’t need, Marie Kondo’s eight-episode extravaganza highlights the physical and mental benefits of having a tidy home. With much of the focus being on the benefits of minimalism, this is definitely worth a watch if you’re interested in home organisation. Even more so if you’re interested it consuming less for the sake of the planet we all share! If you can do it yourself when it comes to keeping on top of your own world, you can do it yourself when it comes to looking after our world too.

Saving the best until last, David Attenborough’s ‘A Life on our Planet’ is all you could possibly need to open your eyes to the wonderfully diverse world we have out there – and what could become of it, and us, should we not become more environmentally conscious in the coming years. One thing we can all agree on is that we need to band together to do our part in helping our planet heal. And, while that’s no small task, there are plenty of small ways in which you can make a difference – and being more conscious of the materials you use to clean and maintain your home and its appliances is one of them!
