Go cheese rolling in Gloucestershire

When: 27 May

Be crowned the King or Queen of Coppers Hill at the annual cheese rolling event! (yes this is a real thing) The tradition dates back centuries and involves hundreds of people chasing a roll of 9lb double Gloucester cheese down a steep hill. The first runner to the bottom wins and the cheese is the prize! So get your running shoes on and sign up because it’s free to join and you might bag yourself some free cheese!

The Night Market at the Exeter Quays is the perfect place to spend your spring! Indulge in some delicious food, enjoy live music and watch the sun go down at this beautiful location right next to the canal. Exeter is also home to the Southernhay Gardens and the Pizza Terracina food markets which hold regular events throughout spring and summer so take a look at which one is best for you!

If you’re a book lover then the Hay festival is definitely the place for you! Jam-packed with inspiring writers, storytellers from around the world, interactive workshops, delicious food and plenty of fun things for the kids to do, it’s a great day out for all the family.

Or, if you’re thinking of going alone, there are lots of ways to meet and mingle with like-minded people. There have even been 22 weddings of couples that have met at the event! What are you waiting for!

Celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday in Stratford

Stratford is a great place to enjoy spring but celebrating the Bards’ birthday makes it even better! There will be street performances, a birthday parade, a garden party for the kids and even free cake! While you’re there, take a walk along the river and visit where Shakespeare used to live!
