How To Keep The Family Entertained This Half-Term
October 27, 2014 | Money Saving Tips & Tricks | No comments
It may seem like only yesterday that you were enjoying yourselves on your summer holiday, but believe it or not October half-term is upon us. At eSpares, we appreciate that the October half term can be a difficult time; it wasn’t that long ago since the summer, but it’s also too near to Christmas to be splashing the cash. So what do you do?
Thankfully, we’ve pulled on our thinking caps and came up with a few suggestions come rain or shine, of what you could do over the week to keep you and your family entertained.
Out and About in the UK:
If you’ve opted to stay in the UK but don’t want to spend the week at home, why not explore some of the hidden corners of the UK at the same time as keeping your children entertained.
There’s so much to see here in good old Blighty, with a lot of activities going on during October half-term. To give you a taste of some of the activities that you can get involved in over the week, here are six suggestions we’ve picked out.
- Eureka, Halifax – join witches, wizards, ghost and ghouls during Halloween week for spooky fun. Visitors can also transform themselves by dressing up in creepy costumes and creating a Halloween mask.
- Harewood House, Leeds – celebrate autumn in all its glory at Harewood House, where you can enjoy indoor and outdoor activities. From cooking demonstrations and hand biscuit decorating, through to scarecrow trails around the ground; there’s something for everyone.
- Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Boat Tours, London, – see London’s newest park from a different way – the water. The tours start from Stratford Waterfront and last 45 minutes as it heads north, taking in a variety of sites including the Olympic Stadium and Copper Box.
- Painting at the National Maritime Museum, London – As part of its Guiding Lights 500 Years of Trinity House institution, visitors to the museum can paint their own versions of dramatic seascapes on display in the exhibition and learn about how sailors used lighthouses.
- Spooky Trails, West Midlands – take part in a spooky trail around the house and gardens of Packwood House and the Tudor-moated Baddesley Clinton.
- October Half-Term Lantern Making Workshops, Birmingham – bring your creative side alive, with the lantern making workshops taking place at the Birmingham Rep, great fun for all the family.
Staying In:
If you’ve opted to stay at home during the week, don’t let it go to waste. A quick search on the internet will bring up a handful of activities that you can do in and around the home with your children to keep them entertained.
From cooking fun including making your own pizzas and cakes; through to educational (yet fun) activities such as science experiments, whatever activity you choose you’ll find a plan online.
If you fancy relaxing whilst your children are kept entertained, you’ll also find a range of activities for your children to do without supervision. Although these activities will keep your children entertained during the week, I feel that I should provide you with a warning that they are likely to lead to mess being caused in and around your home.
Thankfully, whether you end up with flour up the walls and across the surfaces in your kitchen; or paint splatters on the floor, at eSpares we’ve got you covered with our helpful deep cleaning blogs.
You’ll also find all the cleaning products you’ll require to bring your home back into shape via the eSpares website; meaning whatever mess your little monkeys make, you can remove all evidence before the day is out.
Come rain or shine, with the above tips you’re bound to make this half-term one to remember; and should you opt to do any DIY or repairing, remember the team at eSpares have you covered with everything you could ever need.
