Vinegar, Baking Powder, Lemon And Other Household Items

Unusual Uses for Everyday Items

We’ve all got these items kicking around our homes and if you’re getting really sick and tired of only getting to use them for their original purpose then here’s your chance to go on and really shake it up.

Coffee Grounds

Can be spread over flower beds and will act as a natural fertiliser

Put dry grounds into a cleaned out margarine container and poke holes in the lid. Place in the fridge and the grounds will act as an odour absorber

Keep grounds near your kitchen sink. You can use them as a natural cleaner to get rid of garlic, onion and fishy smells from your hands

Cream of Tartar

This can be used to clean your coffee pot. Fill the coffee pot with water and add about 2 or 3 tsps of cream of tartar. Let it brew, then let the water cool and scrub the pot with a plastic scrub brush or any other non-abrasive tool then rinse well

Fabric Softener Sheets

Can be used to freshen the inside of shoes. Or stick them under the seats in your car to keep it smelling fresh

Packing Peanuts

Spray with perfume and place in a bowl out of sight and they will act to freshen the room

Stuff the peanuts into an old pillow case to use as soft bedding for your pets

Sprinkle peanuts into bottom of potted plants to help with drainage

Ice Cube Tray

Use as an organiser in a drawer for earrings, cuff links, or other small nick-nacks

Shower Caps

Use as shoe covers when travelling to protect them. Also can be used to separate make up or toothpaste etc. from the rest of your luggage

Toothpaste

Clean chrome taps and fixtures

Eliminate cleaning odours from your hands

Polish silver

Soothe skin by putting on any bites or irritated areas

Vinegar

Eliminate odour by placing some into a bowl in a freshly painted room
