Dead Cooker?

We recently received some interesting feedback from a customer regarding a fix it yourself mishap (or rather what they thought was a mishap). After successfully replacing the element in their cooker and reconnecting to the mains, the cooker appeared to be dead. No power, no functions, nothing. As it turns out the replacement was a success but the reason for the power failure was simply because the clock/ timer needed to be reset. Depending on what type of cooker you have and how old it is, the type of clock will be different. See below for advice on resetting your clock.
Digital Roll-Round Style Clock
If your cooker has this type of clock and ‘is dead’ it’s because the clock has been switched to an ‘automatic’ state rather than the desired ‘manual’. It can happen simply if the knobs have been played with and twisted about precariously. To reset follow these steps below.
- Have the cooking start time at exactly the same time as time of day that’s currently showing on the main clock.
- Switch the oven to an on position, and set to any of the cooking modes.
- On the ‘cooking time’ dial make sure the ‘hand’ symbol or ‘bell with a strike through’ symbol is chosen.
- On the ‘start time’ dial begin to roll it round using the knobs until you get to almost the same time of day, then slowly one click at a time, work closer to the current time of day. When you hit the same time on the small ‘cooking time’ start dial as the current time of day, the cooker should start working.
Analogue Oven Clocks
This type of clock looks like a normal clock face with three hands. Two hands are same as on any regular clock and the third, smallest hand represents the cooking stop time.
- In the centre of this clock there should be a small display. Like the above example, if no ‘hand’ symbol is showing the cooker will remain ‘dead’.
- The process for resetting this clock is exactly the same as the above.
Digital Timers
Digital timers are relatively easy to operate but also will be very different depending on what type of appliance you have. It should be pretty straight forward though to reset your clock and get your cooker up and running again.
