Don’t ‘Standby’

Did you know leaving your appliances on ‘standby’ can actually cost you up to an extra £86/ year? A recent survey advised that appliances left on ‘standby’ mode account for 9-16% of the average user’s household electricity bill. The worst offenders are televisions, satellite boxes and other audio/video equipment, but devices such as mobile phones, computers and even washing machines and dishwashers are increasingly being left in ‘standby’ mode.
Effectively we’re spending money whilst we sleep – and that ain’t good.
There’s a great article from the Guardian that can be found here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/jun/26/appliances-standby-cost-households-energy
It further explains how we’re wasting energy and costing ourselves more money when we really don’t have to!
Your energy bill is how much?!?!?!?!

eSpares Customer Service is fantastic……
I recently bought a spare part for my petrol strimmer and I was expecting delivery whilst I was on holiday. On returning I couldn’t see any evidence of the parcel so I contacted eSpares and asked for a replacement part to be sent. Without quibble they did this. A few days after it arrived I happened to notice an envelop parcel in the pile of stuff that had gathered whilst I was away. On closer inspection (and to my horror) I discovered that the original part had infact been delivered despite my protestations. On contacting eSpares and offering to return or pay for it they said “call is a gesture of goodwill”. I can’t think of many companies who would do that and I think it’s a bit more than “goodwill”. Brilliant service. I’ll be using them in future no question.
