Keep your kitchen appliances running smoothly and looking great by keeping them clean. Follow these easy steps to a happy and healthy home!
Fridge
You really should clean your fridge every week to keep it running smoothly. Remove all the shelves and wash in warm soapy water, rinse and let dry.
Wipe down the inside with a cloth using a solution made of two teaspoons bicarb soda and water.
A toothbrush is a great tool to use to get into the seal and clean. You can use the bicarb mixture here too.
A couple times a year, you should remove the fridge entirely from the wall and vacuum the cooling elements at the back to keep it running efficiently.
Freezer
If frost is starting to build up in the freezer you’ll want to defrost it to keep it working properly. Remove the contents and place into plastic bags.
Place a bowl of hot water in the freezer to speed up the thaw, clean and restock.
Oven
Depending how long you’ve left it since your last clean will determine the method you use. If it’s not too greasy and grimy you can go for a non-caustic solution of bicarb soda with water. Spread liberally inside of the oven and leave for 24 hours. Then let the scraping commence.
Alternatively if you’re posed with a pretty big task then choose a caustic cleaner to cut through the grease and grime. You can make this using ammonia, bleach and water. You’ll want to use rubber gloves and a face mask whilst you clean with this solution.
Take out the shelves and spray with the solution then place in bin bags to sit for a couple hours. Spray the inside of the oven, then after couple hours rinse down well with water and hose down the shelves. Best to do this when no one else is in the home- keep kids and pets at bay!
Hob
If you have a ceramic or induction hob try to clean any spills straight away to save yourself some heartache later. Follow instructions about which cleaner is recommended for use and only use a plastic scraper to clean off stuck on food messes.
If you’re using a gas hob dismantle it as much as possible. The grills can be placed in the dishwasher or alternatively soaked in hot soapy water. You can use bicarb soda on the burners and wipe down the base plate with warm soapy water. Use a microfibre cloth to buff the surface for a nice shine.
Kettles
If you have a plastic kettle give it a good rub with a warm, soapy cloth. Don’t use anything abrasive on it as it will scratch it.
If you have a metal kettle use a warm soapy cloth then rub down with a good microfibre cloth to give it a nice shine.
Descale your kettle- fill with half water and half white vinegar. Leave overnight, empty, wipe out, refill with water, reboil, empty, refill, reboil- you’re done!
